Portland Night Strike

Building relationships to build a better city.

Gather with Us Under the Bridge

Night Strike is a humanitarian outreach program centered around community, connection, and kindness. We mobilize volunteers in order to meet the felt needs of our unhoused community.  Through this weekly gathering, we provide robust resources and develop relationships that transform lives.

For 20 years, Night Strike has been an opportunity for Portland’s unhoused neighbors to come enjoy a hot meal, receive a haircut, have their feet washed, and have their old clothing and sleeping bags replaced. Night Strike is a place to be seen, known, and loved.

Night Strike happens most Thursdays of the year. There is no Night Strike on Thanksgiving, and we take a 4-week break around Christmas and the New Year.

Own the Night

Partner with us to fund a Night Strike Event

It costs $800 to host Night Strike every week. This covers the “bare bones” cost of food, supplies, permits, and much more. You can support Night Strike and our community by funding a weekly operating cost.

We invite your family, friends, or workplace to collectively raise $800 to show love in action to your community. A CityTeam representative will work directly with you to create a mutually beneficial sponsorship experience for your group.

If you want to partner with us to Own the Night, or are interested in other weekly volunteer opportunities for Night Strike preparation, please email [email protected].

Volunteer FAQ’s

What's the minimum age for serving at Night Strike?

6th grade is the minimum age that a person may volunteer at Night Strike without a parent or legal guardian. Minors are required to be accompanied by a responsible adult.

It’s our priority to provide a safe, family friendly atmosphere for our Night Strike volunteers. However, there is always a small risk involved. If this is a concern, please give us a call and we’d love to talk.

Do I need to register before each date that I volunteer?

Yes. Our online registration fills up fast! If you do not register, you may not be able to volunteer with us at Night Strike.

Is there any special training to get involved at Night Strike as a volunteer?

We host an orientation from 7:00-8:00pm prior to Night Strike. During that time you will receive essential safety training and direction for all we do in the city and under the bridge that night. Arriving after 7:00pm may mean your job will be reassigned, so come early! If you arrive after 7:15pm, you will have missed essential safety information, and may be excluded from serving guests under the bridge.

Can I store my stuff at Liberation Street Church?

No. Please do not bring your valuables, extra bags, or backpacks to Night Strike. The staff cannot store them at Liberation Street Church. Please leave valuables at home or in your vehicles. We do not want our guests to be put into situations that create temptation to steal.

Where should I park?

There are lots of parking options! There is a parking lot on Ankeny between 2nd and the MAX line, or a parking garage on NE Davis and 1st. Or you can look for street parking.
