Lost in addiction. Sleeping outside in the freezing cold. Walking the streets aimlessly, with no hope. No one to help him. Always walking. Sometimes even walking through the night just to keep warm. That was Chris’s life.
To survive, Chris panhandled or went to churches that provided food to the homeless. Chris says, “I didn’t really know where I was going. I just kept walking — until I couldn’t walk anymore.” As he walked, Chris says, “I always had my head down, because I didn’t want anyone to see my face.”
But now, thanks to you and other partners who support this work of restoration and redemption, Chris has found his purpose . . . a reason to live. Besides finding sobriety, CityTeam has helped Chris in other ways, including catching up on his education and developing career plans.
Through our CityTeam @ Work program, Chris earned credits toward an Associate Degree and is considering work in substance abuse counseling or case management. Chris has also had the blessing of restoring broken relationships with his family, which had been ruined by his drug use and drinking.
Chris says, “I found out that what makes me happy is helping people. When I help people, it’s fulfilling.” Right now, Chris is a CityTeam House Manager. His job is to ensure the men in our recovery program are “where they need to be, when they need to be there.” He says, “I’m being a good friend and leader to them, someone they can look up to.”
Your support of CityTeam makes new life possible for people like Chris. Thank you for giving to make his life restoration possible!
