FAQs About CityTeam Ministries
I’ve heard of CityTeam Ministries,
but I’m not sure what you do.
CityTeam Ministries is a Christian non-denominational,
non-profit organization that ministers to the urban
poor throughout the world. CityTeams rescue
missions have been providing food, shelter and clothing
for people in need since 1957. Today, CityTeam also
operates highly successful drug and alcohol rehabilitation
programs and provides counseling, educational opportunities,
career training, youth programs and camping, and crisis
pregnancy residential care throughout the South Bay
Area. CityTeam also has ministries in Oakland,
San Francisco, Portland, Seattle and Philadelphia.
Does CityTeam do international work?
CityTeam is engaged in partnership ministries in
Africa, Central America, Cuba, Mexico, Indonesia,
China, India and Ireland, where we address the needs
of the poor.
What does CityTeam do for Thanksgiving?
We provide both hot Thanksgiving meals and boxes
of canned and packaged food, with a frozen turkey,
to people in need.
When does CityTeam host these Thanksgiving
events?
Our Neighborhood Distribution of food boxes and turkeys
will be on Saturday, November 17. We’ll host
our traditional Thanksgiving meal at our Rescue Mission
kitchen and dining room on Tuesday, November 20.
People can register for this meal by calling 408-293-4657.
Does CityTeam serve meals on Thanksgiving
Day or Christmas Day?
We serve evening meals 365 days of the year in our
Rescue Mission kitchen and dining room. However,
because the men in our Recovery Program help to serve
as our ‘permanent’ kitchen crew, we can
schedule only 6 volunteers to help at any one meal.
How does CityTeam get food for their holiday
events?
Many supporters donate food and frozen turkeys directly,
and a number of churches and corporations have food
drives on our behalf. We get donations from
other programs and from dozens of collection barrels
we have placed throughout the valley. We also
have a number of opportunities to purchase food at
discounted prices with funds donated specifically
for that purpose.
What kinds of donations and support does
CityTeam need for the holidays?
We can’t possibly make our holiday efforts
a success without hundreds of volunteers, so your
time and effort are greatly appreciated. We
also need donations of canned and packaged food, frozen
turkeys, and new non-violent toys appropriate for
children through age 12. During the winter months,
there is always a need for warm jackets and coats,
both new and used, blankets and socks. These
items may be dropped off at our offices at 2304 Zanker
Road or our Family Services facility at 1297 North
13th Street, in San Jose. And, of course, generous
financial donations are what make this all possible.
I’d like to have a collection barrel
for food or toys placed in my church or place of business.
How can I arrange for that?
Yes, you can. Please call Audrey Harris at
our Family Services ministry, at 408-293-4657 to make
arrangements.
Can I help people in need directly through
CityTeam?
Yes, this can be done through our Adopt-A-Family
program. Call Rhunda Boudreaux at 408-293-4657
and she’ll give you the details for purchasing
food and Christmas gifts for a needy family, depending
on what they need.
