On November 7th Five San Francisco 49er players visited CityTeam’s Men’s Recovery and shelter programs in San Jose to help prepare and serve meals.

The athletes had an opportunity to serve and talk to more than 100 clients as well as poor and homeless folks. In addition they adorned aprons and plastic gloves, rolled there sleeves up and took on food preparation in the kitchen. LB Julian Peterson, QB Ken Dorsey, CB Bruce Thornton, WR Otis Amey and CB Shawntae Spencer were put to the tasks of peeling and cutting potatoes and onions, prepping garlic bread and preparing food for the breakfast meal the following morning.

“There is always somebody that needs more help than you,” said Julian Peterson the two-time Pro-Bowler. “Some people aren’t fortunate enough to be as blessed as the next person. So when we have the opportunity to give back it makes us feel good and it gives hope to the next guy that they can come in and do the same thing to help out.”

“You have to give back,” said Otis Amey. “That’s where I started from, I started from nothing too, and my family is still not OK. I’m trying to make money so I can buy my mom a house. It’s important to give back to people that support you.”

This was truly a wonderful event in which CityTeam Ministries extends a big thank you to everyone at the San Francisco forty niners organization including the players that made it happen.
