Read why Steve Thomas is returning
with his youth group for his fifth time.
If you are a youth worker...
...then you know what it is like to have an event
or mission trip that goes so smooth you know God
has been with you. That is what my first trip to
Camp MayMac was like for my group and me. I have
been in youth ministry for 21 years and I also know
what it is like to come to a mission site hoping
to involve your students in hands-on work and witness
opportunities only to find that everything is unorganized.
Well, that was not my experience at Camp MayMac.
My students had a wonderful time working with and
getting to know the campers and being involved in
work projects around the camp that really made you
feel like you were making a difference. Most of my
students loved the kitchen duty. The camp staff was
great to work with and within a couple of days we
felt like we were just a part of the family. The
housing facilities were very nice but not so nice
that you didn't recognize you were a on a mission
trip. My students came prepared to work but ended
up really enjoying the time, primarily because the
staff was so appreciative.
As a leader I enjoyed the spirit of the camp and
just seeing my students interact with the campers.
The evening time of singing and drama was a highlight
for my students and they were eager to come home
and share the music with the rest of my group. I
would highly recommend this mission opportunity to
your group. It is a very inexpensive way to be involved
in ministry to young children from the inner city.
We are going back this summer and taking two teams
for two different weeks. MayMac has become a regular
part of my summer program.
